In 1844 he developed his first balance with the claim that it should be the most accurate of its time. He succeeded. This success was to make waves: Gottlieb Kern founded a precision mechanics workshop that quickly became very popular. Goldsmiths, scientists and pharmacies in particular turned to his precise weighing instruments.
After Kern's stepson Albert Sauter entered the business in 1870, the workshop experienced a real boom. By 1900, KERN & SOHN had made a name for itself as the largest manufacturer of precision scales. Since then, the product range has developed steadily. A multitude of new measuring instruments were added and the brand now enjoys a worldwide reputation. This legacy has been maintained and proven to this day.
